On the afternoon of November 9, a special donation ceremony was held in Beijing. Ms. He Zishi, wife of Academician Zeng Dechao, donated the book "Land Use in China" to our school. Guo Zhongxing, director of our school library and director of the Department of Cultural Heritage, and relevant staff attended the ceremony.
At the ceremony, He Zishi emotionally shared the story behind the precious document "Land Use in China". This set of books was originally entrusted by Professor Sun Wenyu, deputy dean of Beijing Institute of Agricultural Mechanization, to his colleague Zeng Dechao and his wife when he retired. Professor Sun Wenyu once served as the dean of the Department of Agricultural Economics and acting dean of the College of Agriculture at the private Jinling University. He is one of the proud disciples of the famous agricultural economics scholar Mr. Bu Kai. "Land Use in China" is one of Mr. Bu Kai's important masterpieces. As one of the central authors of the book, Professor Sun Wenyu not only participated deeply in the survey of rural China, but also assisted Bu Kai in completing the heavy statistical and compilation work.
Over the years, Zeng Dechao and his wife have stuck to their promise. Even during turbulent times, when they traveled to Beijing, Henan, Chongqing, Hebei and other places, and abandoned many other books, they never gave up on this set of "Land Use in China". Teacher He said that she has been keeping this set of books for more than 50 years, and even specially designed a bookcase at home to preserve them carefully. Now she hopes that it can return to her hometown, Mr. Sun Wenyu’s alma mater - Jinling University, now Nanjing Agricultural University.
Guo Zhongxing expressed his deep respect and gratitude to Teacher He Zishi. He mentioned that in 1921 Bu Kai founded the first Department of Agricultural Economics in a Chinese university at Jinling University, "Chinese Land Utilization", "Chinese Farm Economy" and "Chinese Farm Management", known as China's "Trilogy of Agricultural Economics" This classic work contains the results of a large-scale land use survey in 22 provinces and 168 regions in China. It is one of the important windows for academic circles to understand China's agriculture and rural areas during the Republic of China. These two volumes of "Land Utilization in China" are not only precious historical materials, but also a heavy trust and entrustment. Nannong people will properly keep and make full use of these two volumes of "Land Utilization in China" to live up to Teacher He's entrustment and hope. .
