Descendants of our school’s outstanding alumnus Mr. Zou Bingwen visited Nannong

On October 10, Mr. Tu Weilin, the grandson of Mr. Zou Bingwen, the main founder of modern higher agricultural education in China and an outstanding alumnus of our school, visited Nannong. Dong Weichun, member of the Standing Committee of the School Party Committee and Vice President, warmly received Tu Weilin and his party. Professor Zou Sixiang, former dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine of our school and nephew of Mr. Zou Bingwen, and relevant leaders of the Library (Cultural Heritage Department) and College of Agriculture attended the event.

In front of the bronze statue of Zou Bingwen on the first floor of the teaching building, Tu solemnly presented flowers and bowed to Lin, expressing his deep memory and high respect for his grandfather.

At the school history museum, Dong Weichun introduced to Tu Weilin the development history of Nanjing Agricultural University for more than 120 years and Zou Bingwen's important contribution to the school. He said that Mr. Zou Bingwen, as a Gengzi indemnity student, studied at Cornell University in the United States in his early years. He was one of the founders of the Chinese Science Society and the Chinese Agricultural Society. After returning to China in 1916, he worked in the agricultural department of Jinling University and successively served as the director of Nanjing Normal University. The first director of the Department of Agriculture, director of the Department of Agriculture at National Southeast University, dean of the College of Agriculture at National Central University, and chairman of the Chinese Agricultural Society. In 1943, he served as vice chairman of the Preparatory Committee of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the first chief executive of the Chinese government at FAO. represent. He drew on the "trinity" school-running model of teaching, scientific research, and promotion in the American Agricultural College, and proposed the school-running idea of"integration of agriculture, science and education", which promoted the transformation of agricultural school education in the late Qing Dynasty to modern university agricultural science education.

During the event, Dong Weichun presented to Tu Weilin "History of Nanjing Agricultural University" (2022 edition) and "Historical Survey of the Chinese Society of Agriculture and Biology in the First Half of the 20th Century - Focusing on Central University and Jinling University". Tu Weilin also visited the Binjiang Campus of our school and was happy with the current development achievements of the school. He took a group photo in front of "Bingwen Road" with great interest.
