On June 18, the Campus Cultural Heritage Construction Committee held a ceremony to unveil the cultural heritage series of Nanjing Agricultural University in the north of the main building. Vice President Dong Weichun attended the ceremony. Responsible persons from the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee, the President's Office, the Department of Planning, Finance and State-owned Assets, the Library (Cultural Heritage Department) and other relevant departments, as well as some students from the school history clubs attended the ceremony.
Dong Weichun delivered a speech at the unveiling ceremony. He said that the unveiling ceremony in front of the main building was of great significance. Since the Republic of China, NNU people have introduced modern agricultural and biological knowledge to China, localized the agricultural science and education integration model, and promoted it throughout the country, cultivating a large number of outstanding talents to work hard in the motherland. The main building is a symbol of the NNU spirit and a monument to the spirit of NNU scientists.
Dong Weichun pointed out that 2024 marks the 110th anniversary of the founding of China's first four-year agricultural undergraduate program by Jinling University in 1914, the 70th anniversary of the completion of the main building of the former East China Aeronautical Institute in 1954, and the 40th anniversary of the name change of Nanjing Agricultural College to Nanjing Agricultural University in 1984. This year, Nanjing Agricultural University will relocate to the Binjiang Campus. As a participant and witness of NAU's history, the main building is a place that NAU people yearn for. This reminds us that we should do a good job in protecting our cultural heritage, let the spirit of scientists shine forever, and let the spirit of NAU be passed on from generation to generation.
Liu Zhibin, director of the president's office, and Liu Xiaoguang, teacher of "A Brief History of NNU", unveiled the plaque of the Jiangsu Provincial Scientist Spirit Education Base in 2024 at the school history museum. Quan Simao, director of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee, and Zheng Lan, director of the Planning, Finance and State-owned Assets Department, unveiled the stone tablet of "China's 20th Century Architectural Heritage" for the main building. Dong Weichun and Guo Zhongxing, director of the Library (Cultural Heritage Department), unveiled the plaque for the former site of Nanjing Agricultural College to be included in the Nanjing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
It is reported that in 2022, the main building of Nanjing Agricultural University was selected into the list of "China's 20th Century Architectural Heritage" by the Chinese Society of Cultural Relics and the Chinese Society of Architecture, in 2023, the former site of Nanjing Agricultural College was selected into the Nanjing Cultural Relics Protection Unit, and in 2024, the School History Museum was selected into the Jiangsu Provincial Scientist Spirit Education Base. The school has been recognized by the higher authorities for three consecutive years in terms of cultural heritage construction. These three honors are relatively independent, but also echo each other and are integrated. They are an important part of the cultural heritage of Nanjing Agricultural University and demonstrate important humanistic and historical values.
