October 16th is World Food Day and the anniversary of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). At 10 o’clock in the morning, Nanjing Agricultural University held the first chief representative of China’s The inauguration ceremony of the bronze statue of Mr. Zou Bingwen, the first director of the Agricultural Science and the main founder of the Chinese Science Society and the Chinese Agricultural Society. More than 100 teachers and students from Nanjing Agricultural University, relatives of Mr. Zou Bingwen, representatives of the Chinese Agricultural Society, and Nanjing Agricultural University attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Dong Weichun, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President.
Zhu Shigui, Secretary of the Party Branch of the Library (Cultural Heritage Department) first introduced the life of Mr. Zou Bingwen and the process of making the bronze statue; then, Party Secretary Chen Ligen, Vice President Hu Feng, Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Agricultural Society Mo Guanggang and Mr. Zou Bingwen Family representative Zou Hong unveiled the bronze statue of Mr. Zou Bingwen together. All the participants bowed to the bronze statue; Zhang Hongsheng from Nanjing Agricultural University Foundation introduced the Zou Bingwen scholarship fundraising plan; student representative from the School of Plant Protection Cai Xiaowei read out "Farming, reading, building dreams, being a newcomer in the era of knowing and loving agriculture-to the national agricultural science students “Proposal letter”; Assistant President Wang Yuanchao read the letter from FAO; Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Agriculture Mo Guanggang delivered a speech on behalf of the Chinese Society of Agriculture; Mr. Zou Bingwen’s family representative, Ms. And thanks to the bronze statue production team.
At the end of the ceremony, Chen Ligen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing Agricultural University, delivered a speech. "Through the bronze statue today, Mr. Zou's deep gaze spans a century of time and space, penetrates the axis of the campus, and closely connects our past and the future from the deepest point in history." Chen Ligen said, Mr. Zou Bingwen is a higher agricultural education in China The main founder, pioneer practitioner of serving the country by industry, and outstanding organizer of Sino-US agricultural exchanges, the installation of the bronze statue of Mr. Zou is a memory of history, a heritage of spirit, and an inspiration for the future. Nanjing Agricultural University will inherit the school-running philosophy of combining agriculture, science and education put forward by Mr. Zou Bingwen, adhere to the belief in strengthening agriculture to serve the country, cultivate patriotic soil, integrate family and country feelings into all aspects of talent training, and encourage teachers and students to transform patriotism into strong agriculture. Vice President Dong Weichun said at the ceremony that the establishment of the bronze statue of Mr. Zou Bingwen in Nannong not only commemorates the great achievements of Mr. Zou Bingwen for China’s higher agricultural education, but also allows Mr. Zou Bingwen’s spirit of serving the country to be passed on from generation to generation and inspire Agricultural college students "take the responsibility of strengthening and rejuvenating agriculture as their own responsibility", study diligently and have the courage to innovate, and make more contributions to the modernization of agriculture and rural areas in the future.
Under the leadership of Vice President Dong Weichun, the Library (Cultural Heritage Department) participated in the preparation of the early bronze statue and the planning and organization of this event. It is reported that on World Food Day 2019, the school solemnly held a seminar to commemorate the 100 years of Zou Bingwen’s thoughts on combining agriculture, science and education. The meeting was attended by Secretary Chen Ligen, Vice President Dong Weichun, Wang Yuanchao School Assistant and other leaders, as well as Zou Bingwen’s family members, Zou Youlan and Zou. Hong and others jointly agreed to make a statue of Mr. Zou Bingwen. During the epidemic, the library (the Ministry of Cultural Heritage) launched a bronze statue production organization. At the beginning of the creation of clay sculptures, the responsible members of the library collected Zou Bingwen's biographical information, and held several discussions with the chief creators of the production company to study the details of bronze statue production. In the finalization stage, Vice President Dong Weichun, Minister Liu Yong of the Propaganda Department, experts on Zou Bingwen, and professors from Nanjing Art Institute went to the sculpture workshop to propose amendments to the clay sculptures. At the same time, the library (the Ministry of Cultural Heritage) maintained a relationship with Zou Youlan and Zou Hong and other family members contacted and communicated and solicited their opinions and suggestions in time. In the end, the bronze statue looked lifelike, handsome and confident, and accurately grasped the charm of Mr. Zou, which was affirmed by all parties.
Before the inauguration ceremony of the bronze statue, the library (cultural heritage department) will work with the Party Office, School Office, Propaganda Department, International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Academic Affairs Office, Foundation Office, Information Construction Center, Academic Affairs Office, Logistics Department and other departments as well as The Plant Protection Institute and other units carefully prepared and organized to ensure the successful holding of the unveiling ceremony of the bronze statue. During the ceremony, the library (Ministry of Cultural Heritage) also designed and produced the "Mr. Zou Bingwen's Life and Deeds Graphic Exhibition", allowing teachers and students to condense the ambition of serving the country from Zou Bingwen's touching deeds and feel the feelings of family and country.
